Solar Provider Group builds seven solar facilities on school rooftops in partnership with Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board

Toronto, October 5th, 2016 – Today, Solar Provider Group, a vertically integrated global leader in the development, construction and operation of solar PV electrical generation assets, is announcing a partnership with Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) to bring nearly 1 MW of rooftop solar generation to fruition atop seven schools in the district. Construction of the seven projects was completed diligently within 10 weeks with interconnection to the local electricity grid and power production scheduled for late September.

“Solar Provider Group is proud to partner with HWDSB to bring clean, renewable electricity to these schools and their surrounding communities.” said Sebastian Seyfarth, CEO, Solar Provider Group. “This will mark the second School Board that Solar Provider Group has partnered with and we applaud HWDSB’s leadership on the environment.”

HWDSB is making the solar power generation projects possible by leasing roof space to Solar Provider Group at these seven schools. Developed under Ontario’s Feed-In-Tariff program, the seven projects have peak output capacity of 923 kilowatts. Together, the seven systems employ 2,979 solar modules which are expected to produce a combined total of approximately 1,093 MWh of clean, pollution-free electricity annually. Apart from their environmental benefits, the projects have generated a number of engineering, construction and project management jobs, boosting local economic growth.

KB Racking Inc., an Ontario-based manufacturer of best-in-class mounting systems for solar installations, supplied their EkonoRack 2.0 mounting solution – a lightweight, non-penetrating system designed for rapid installation. The solar systems will provide an added benefit of protecting the school rooftops from the sun and elements, extending the lifetime of the roof on all seven buildings.

Solar Provider Group has completed over 100 commercial-scale solar projects under Ontario’s Feed-In-Tariff program, in addition to the development of many more commercial, utility-scale and community solar projects across the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union.

Solar Provider Group flips the switch on Diamond Head solar project

Cobourg, September 17, 2015 – Solar Provider Group, one of the World’s leading, fully integrated solar PV companies, together with Diamond Head Industrial Mall Inc., are celebrating the opening ceremony of a 600 kW solar project in Cobourg, Ontario.

The solar project, located on the rooftop of Diamond Head Industrial Mall at 210 Willmott Street in Cobourg, is a shining example of how property owners are working together with Solar Provider Group to take advantage of Ontario’s Feed-In Tariff program. Through its rooftop lease model, Solar Provider Group builds, owns and operates the solar system on the client’s rooftop at no capital cost to the property owner. The property owner benefits from having solar onsite and monetizing what is otherwise unused roof space.

“By choosing to partner with Solar Provider Group for solar on its facility, Diamond Head is supporting the development of renewable energy and a cleaner Ontario electricity grid, while earning additional revenue and spurring the local economy” said Christian Wentzel, Chairman of Solar Provider Group.

“We are very proud of the solar project at our facility,” said Gord Atkinson, Partner and Property Manager at Diamond Head Mall. “Not only are we enhancing sustainability, partnering with Solar Provider Group enabled us to tap into a steady stream of income through their rooftop lease.”

The project was developed, engineered and installed by Solar Provider Group, which manages every aspect of solar seamlessly, from start to finish. KB Racking, Solar Provider Group’s affiliate, supplied their EkonoRack 2.0 mounting solution – a lightweight, durable system designed for rapid installation. The KB Racking team designed the system layout to ensure as much energy as possible could be generated from the rooftop, while adhering to local codes and standards. The solar installation is also fitted with a Schneider 500 kW central inverter and high efficiency Trina solar panels provided by Silfab Solar Inc., all locally sourced from Ontario.

The 600 kW system will generate an estimated 690,000 kWh of clean electricity annually, mitigating the effects of 55 tonnes of carbon dioxide from Ontario’s electricity system – equivalent to powering 70 homes per year. Apart from its environmental benefits, the project has generated a number of construction, engineering and project management jobs, boosting local economic growth. In addition, the Mississaugi First Nation has partnered with Solar Provider Group for a minor equity interest in the solar installation.
